SSIS is designed to extract and transform data and load this data. This is where most of its functionality is concentrated at. SSIS Data source elements play very important role in making sure all these functionality can be successfully configured and utilized.
SSIS Data Source utilizes OLE DB and ADO.NET connections to gain access to such databases as SQL Server, DB2, SSAS and Outlook. SSIS connection manager is used to set up this data sources. It allows you to select Server Name you are trying to connect. It helps you in selection of a user account for the database and selection of your target database.

SSIS Connections created using Connection Manager do not reside within SSIS and they are often times saved within computer registries. As a result, they can be reused across multiple SSIS Packages.
